WELCOME ADDRESS

Dear Colleague,

it is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the 13th international Prague workshop on catheter ablation with live demonstrations. Even more than one decade later after the first meeting in 1998, our mission remains the same - to promote the method of catheter ablation in the Central and Eastern Europe. Also the concept remains simple - to select distinguished world-recognized electrophysiologists who agree to participate and let them to explain and to demonstrate different ablation strategies or techniques in real life. In the same time, the audience has an opportunity to interact - ask questions or express their suggestions during the procedure. Live cases are supplemented by the review lectures. Growing number of attendees from many countries (not necessarily from the former Eastern block) and the fact that many of them come almost every year suggest that the above concept is still attractive, and even more important in this period of enormous technological progress. All this is only possible due to continuous support of the endowment fund "Modern Treatment of Arrhythmias" and also through the generous sponsorship of the industry.

Encouraged by the above tradition, we have decided to focus our attention this year on complex catheter ablations. First, there will be review lectures on different aspects of catheter ablation. Live cases, accompanied by relevant review lectures will demonstrate strategy of catheter ablation of postablation left atrial flutter, various techniques of ablation of paroxysmal and chronic atrial fibrillation and/or ventricular tachycardia. Cooperation with the Homolka Hospital in Prague will allow to perform 4 procedures simultaneously on the second day of the meeting and thus, more intensive learning.

As usually, the scientific programme will be followed by a reception that will take place in a special place in the historical centre of Prague.

We hope that you will find the workshop worth of attending and look forward to meeting you in Prague.

Professor Josef Kautzner, MD, PhD, FESC
